The Opportunity
The purpose of the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative (DVULI) Training and Curriculum Development Manager is to ensure in-house trainings and DVULI curriculum trainings are delivered with excellence using adult learning techniques and facilitation skills that address the program learning objectives. The ideal candidate will be fully bilingual and bicultural, fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken). They will be helping to advance the mission of DVULI by engaging with youth leaders and senior pastors in the context of Hispanic urban communities throughout the U.S.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training and Curriculum

  • Lead the process for the development of innovative methods of delivery relevant to learner needs and increase the use of flexible and distance learning methods for all curriculum: core training, follow-up training, staff training. 
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Training and Resources and Curriculum Specialist while using an evaluation process to determine the need for curriculum redesign and/or edits and revisions.
  • Evaluate accessibility of DVULI curriculum for English as a Second Language participants; highlight concerns related to language, culture or context and recommend changes when appropriate.
  • Provide direction and leadership to, and/or deliver orientation training for coordinators, coaches, liaisons and mentors using traditional and blended learning systems.
  • Maintain relationships with academic partners and provide oversight of the accreditation process.
  • Serve as an academic coach for DVULI participants taking online college courses for credit; develop syllabi and evaluate student performance.
  • Stay abreast of current industry practice and actively pursue opportunities to continue to learn best practices in curriculum design and delivery through research, professional development, and other learning opportunities.

Instructor Preparation and Development

  • Promote and evaluate quality instructional practices that support high levels of experiential style facilitation for adult learners.
  • Work with the Director of Training and Resources to develop and deliver quality preparation and training for instructors.
  • Observe and evaluate instructors around best instructional practices and create individualized development plans when necessary to help instructors become quality experiential facilitators.

Alumni Support

  • Coordinate and lead supplemental trainings and trainings developed by organization partners for DVULI alumni.

Liaison

  • Serve as a city liaison, by working with assigned cities to provide city development while serving as a coach to current cohorts.
  • Assist alumni with opportunities for individual development and to develop and sustain follow-up activities that extend the impact of the initiative investment.
  • Attend workshops, national conferences, graduation, and other events coordinated by DVULI as it relates to assigned cities.
  • May be called upon to provide devotionals, prayer and/or to lead worship with current cohorts and alumni.
Elements of Success
  • A minimum of three years of demonstrated success teaching or facilitating training with adult learners.
  • Experience in curriculum development a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Organizational Learning and Development, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish verbal and written communication required, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition skills.
  • Experience working with and/or living in Spanish speaking culture preferred.
  • Familiarity with principles of adult learning and instructional design preferred.
  • Shares a commitment to the vision, mission, and principles of the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative as well as a passion for changed lives among poor, urban, at-risk youth.  Understands the nature of non-profit and ministry organizations.
  • Skilled in project management and organization; able to balance a focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of annual goals and objectives.
  • Experience working with a team to accomplish organizational goals and objectives. 
  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills; and the ability to effectively interface with management, partner agencies, pastors, urban youth workers, and other DVULI stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs with a willingness to learn and apply new applications.
Additional Requirements
  • Extensive travel required, scheduled for up to 3-4 days/month at a time depending upon team capacity and needs.
  • Must be able to travel by use of commercial or private aircraft.
  • Must be able to operate an automobile and be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
