The Opportunity
The DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative (DVULI) exists to equip Christian leaders who serve urban youth with transformative leadership tools through an intensive faith-based leadership development program.
The DVULI Communications Intern will work as part of RDV’s Philanthropy Communications team to assist with communications efforts in support of DVULI’s programs, current participants, and alumni. In addition, the DVULI Communications Intern will assist with administrative needs related to DVULI communications.
The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, energized by variety in their workday, dedicated to presenting high-quality work and customer service.

Location and Hours

This position will be located downtown Grand Rapids, MI. Interested individuals should be able to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year with the possibility of 40 hours per week during the summer.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborates with the DVULI Communications Manager to develop online content, help manage and populate digital platforms, and work with internal teams on related content efforts.
  • Writes and edits content for web, print, electronic newsletters, and social media.
  • Assists with digital asset building and content design, including web, social, and presentations using design tools like Canva and Adobe.
  • Updates DVULI website content in WordPress to support programming and communications at the direction of the DVULI Communications Manager.
  • May assist with video shoots and content development as well as review and light editing.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of communications projects of all sizes.

What You'll Bring
  • Shares a commitment to the Christian vision, mission, and principles of the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative. Understands the nature of non-profit and ministry organizations.
  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field - Junior or Senior preferred.
  • Demonstration of excellent written capabilities through work, internship, and/or college related experiences.
  • A curious approach to communications strategy.
  • Understanding of Microsoft programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide insights and thoughtful questions with a strong "roll up your sleeves to get the job done" mindset.
  • Knowledge and experience with various storytelling and monitoring platforms.
  • Excellent communications skills across a variety of mediums (written, visual, verbal and presentation).
  • Self-motivated and ability to also work collaboratively, with a passion and willingness to expand knowledge.
  • A desire to research, learn about new things, and identify creative solutions.
  • Ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Must be able to lift/transport boxes of approximately thirty (30) pounds; stoop, bend, and climb steps and stairs.
