The Opportunity
The Program Officer plays a key role on RDV Philanthropy’s Grants Program Team by identifying grant opportunities that match both community needs and donor intent. Responsibilities include researching grant-making options, drafting reports and deliverables, reviewing due diligence and impact, and supporting giving strategies and special initiatives with the team. Reporting to a Senior Program Officer, this position requires professionalism, sound judgement, attention to detail, and integrity when working with diverse audiences. The Program Officer also helps shape strategies aligned with RDV Philanthropy Grants’ values.

What You'll Do
- Maintains a strong working knowledge of RDV Philanthropy Grants giving strategies and funding priorities.
- Proactively and creatively works to identify grant-making opportunities aligned with donor intent and community need.
- Researches and reviews grant proposals by gathering information, making site visits, analyzing data, and investigating leading practices.
- Evaluates nonprofit landscape by conducting comprehensive scans based on topic and geographic area and synthesizes insights.
- Serves as a thought partner to Senior Program Officer, providing analysis and insights that inform decision-making.
- Synthesizes information by drafting reports, executive summaries, engagement frameworks, and other deliverables for presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manages grant-related activity within the grants management system and Salesforce, ensuring data integrity, documentation, and coding consistency.
- Completes due diligence and summary write-ups for specified grant requests by contacting representatives of requesting organizations, reviewing financial documents, and exploring the appropriateness of funding.
- Follows up on past grants and evaluation reports when appropriate.
- Collaborates with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of grant letters, agreements, and declination notices.
- Partners with the Senior Program Officer and other RDV Philanthropy Grants team members to continuously refine internal systems and processes.
- Prepares content and presents high-quality reports, data analysis, and presentations for staff and foundation trustees with guidance from Senior Program Officer.
- Coordinates and provides project support for special initiatives including research, planning, and execution of deliverables.
- Stays current on trends, research, and developments in philanthropy and related fields.
- Builds and nurtures a robust network of nonprofit partners and practice leaders to support collaboration and meaningful community partnerships.
- Shares information and insights in a way that contributes to the learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement within RDV Philanthropy’s Grants and broader teams.
- Researches subjects of interest to RDV Philanthropy Grants or individual principals.
- Sources and curates stories from grantees to share with foundation trustees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (nonprofit management, business, finance, communications, administration, health and human services), or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with proven project leadership abilities.
- Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills, engaging presentation abilities, and effectively applies graphic design principles to elevate visual impact.
- Exhibits excellent proofreading skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to research and verify information for accuracy and clarity.
- Connects effectively with a wide range of audiences, making others feel comfortable and encouraged.
- Works independently on multiple projects, prioritizing work appropriately, and providing guidance for other team members.

- Manages grant-related activity within the grants management system, and Salesforce, ensuring accurate data entry, documentation, and quality control.
- Shares commitment to and is comfortable representing the beliefs and principles of the trustees and their philanthropic interests.
- Interfaces effectively with all levels of management in a highly professional environment.
- Exercises superior judgment and maintains the highest level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Flexible to occasionally attend evening events and travel out of town.
- Must be able to operate an automobile, have a valid driver’s license, and travel by plane when necessary.
