The Opportunity
Seeking individual or sub-contractor for housekeeping and guest services to support beautiful lakeside family vacation property in Charlevoix, MI. Summer season Memorial Day to Labor Day approximately 15-20 hours per week (2 days, Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus on call services). Off Season approximately 10-12 hours per week. Primary responsibilities include thorough cleaning and organizing of family and guest areas of property to ensure pristine conditions for guest arrival and enjoyment. Includes purchasing and stocking of requested supplies, errand running, and other on-call services as requested by the homeowners and guests.

Duties and Responsibilities

Daily and Detailed Cleaning

  • Cleans, vacuums, mops and dusts floors, ceilings, furnishings, fixtures, lavatories, kitchen appliances, mirrors, windows at reachable level, empties trash, etc.
  • Washes dishes and loads/unloads dishwasher.
  • Changes bedding, washes sheets and towels.
  • Launders, irons, and folds household linens and personal articles of clothing.
  • Organizes/cleans closets, drawers, cabinets, bookshelves, etc.
  • Polishes/cleans metalwork, woodwork, artwork, and other items and surfaces.

Planning & Coordination

  • Takes initiative to learn and apply the most effective and highest quality cleaning and home organization techniques and resources. Earns confidence and trust by demonstrating accurate and timely decisions within areas of expertise.
  • Develops and tracks the progress of projects; including organizational, seasonal, deep cleaning, etc. Schedules and manages vendor services; including carpet cleaning, window cleaning, etc.
  • Exercises open communications with other household staff (Property & Grounds/Maintenance Staff, Chef, Personal Assistant, etc.). Team player; chip in where needed.
  • Proactive in ensuring Properties Manager and other household staff are aware of important issues which impact efficient operations of the home.
  • Monitors inventory levels and replenishes household cleaning supplies and products.

Guest Services

  • Purchases and stocks groceries, beverages, snacks, and other household and personal supplies as requested by family or chef.
  • Greets vendors as needed who provide services calling at the home; accepts delivery of packages; runs errands throughout the week as requested.
  • May provide assistance to private household chef or caterers in food preparation, space preparation and clean up, decorating, or serving food and beverages for special events and entertaining.
  • Performs special projects as requested in order to ensure overall smooth and efficient operation of household.

Elements of Success

  • 2+ years private housekeeping and organizing experience preferred. Some hospitality experience a plus.
  • Services are conducted primarily in the home(s) of the client of RDV Staffing. It is important that contractor is genuinely committed to contributing to a happy home environment and is able to work independently. May be required to “pitch in” to perform a household task not specifically outlined within this statement of work.
  • Cleaning of the home must be conducted around family’s activities, with sensitivity to privacy of family members at all times. This requires flexibility to determine which rooms to clean at what time in order to be least intrusive to presence of family, i.e. if bedrooms are occupied by family members.
  • Equipment will be provided by Properties Manager, i.e. brooms, dusters, vacuums, cloths, gloves, step stools, cleaning products, etc.
  • Ease of using household technology is important, including smart appliances, ipads, and email systems.
  • Must be willing to be flexible in work hours during unexpected schedule changes, extended travel periods, and emergency situations. Some late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be requested for special events or guest needs.
  • Must be a responsible, flexible, dedicated, self-motivated, and dependable person of highest integrity; neat and tidy in appearance; organized and reliable; cheerful and positive in attitude; and one who exhibits pride in service provided; extremely attentive to details to assure homes are presented to the highest quality standards and personal service (catches the smallest of details and fixes before the homeowner arrives).
  • The family’s privacy is of critical importance; highest level of confidentiality must be exercised at all times.
