Position Summary:
The Senior Server Administrator is part of a team that is responsible for the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the server infrastructure.
The position also acts as backup for and provides support to the Systems Administrator positions. Full-time, salaried/exempt position which reports to the Assistant Director of Technology Services.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Servers
- Meets with other members of the Technology Services group and/or business units to develop and analyze business requirements when implementing new or modified application and/or Operating System software. The analysis includes processing capabilities needed based on projected workloads, server facility requirements (power, air cooling, room layout), and impact to backup, network, and disaster recovery systems and processes
- Monitors server room environment; recommends and procures equipment to control temperature, dust, humidity, and other environmental factors in the room, including battery backup and generator systems
- Procures, installs, configures and maintains server hardware
- Installs, configures, and maintains virtual servers
- Monitors system performance, capacity, and availability, responding to critical issues on a 24\7 basis
- Writes scripts to perform common, repetitive, or scheduled tasks
- Troubleshoots hardware or Operating System failures, makes repairs if required and contacts vendor/service provider for support and/or repair when necessary
- Develops and maintains procedures related to the implementation and support of servers
- Develops, implements and documents change management procedures
- Monitors life cycle of server room hardware and recommends upgrades as appropriate
- Schedules, plans and executes routine system patches and updates for servers and workstations on a regular cycle during non-business hours
- Monitors critical patches released by Operating System vendors and evaluates risk\impact of patching the servers outside of the normal patching cycle
- Responsible for the procurement, implementation and maintenance of system software
- Develops and maintains procedures related to the implementation and support of system software
- Ensures that virus protection and virus protection procedures are deployed and current for all servers and workstations
- Tracks server and client access license usage to ensure software licensing compliance
- Supports Microsoft Exchange server environment
- Supports Citrix server environment
- Writes, tests, and deploys application packages through Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
- Provides secondary support for Microsoft Threat Management Gateway server
- Performs user add, change and delete administration in Active Directory and Exchange environments
- Appropriately addresses user inquiries and problems in a timely manner
- Configures and monitors backup jobs, including loading, handling and organization of backup media
- Maintains backup documentation
- Facilitates restoration of data from backup media when needed
- Recommends and leads improvements to backup strategy when needed
- Participates in the development, implementation and testing of the disaster recovery plan
- Remains current with technology trends and industry developments
- Leads and participates in other projects as assigned
- Available 24 hours a day 7 days a week for support
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. An educational emphasis in information technology or additional training in network or computing technologies required.
- Minimum seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in server management
- Microsoft Exchange 2010 design and administration
- VMware vSphere & ESXi
- Storage Area Network technologies, including FibreChannel, FibreChannel over Ethernet (FCoE), and iSCSI
- Server backup concepts and technologies
- Citrix XenApp, Secure Gateway, Web Interface and Receiver technologies
